The Government is keen to encourage colleges and other providers to improve their provision continuously, which accounts for the increasing emphasis on Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement in recent years.
The current Common Inspection Framework has included Capacity to Improve as a way of encouraging continuous improvement, especially amongst coasting providers. The recently announced Framework for Excellence and the suggestions that at least FE colleges may be able to become self-regulating is further evidence of this trend. The Every Child Matters agenda fits firmly within this wider picture.
